This month we get to celebrate one of our most humble and hardworking volunteers – Esther Newman! Esther has been with us for many years, assisting at our merchandise tent with Candy (the two of them seen smiling in the photo above). Whenever you went to get that awesome new ASH rash guard or t shirt, there’s a good chance Esther was handing it to you with a great big smile on her face.
You may have noticed as of last month our merchandise tent was not there, because of beach regulations we are no longer able to sell merch at events, so please visit shop.accessurf.com to support.
We are so thankful for all of Esther’s help and support. Here is more of her experience in her words:
“Six years ago, I was housesitting for friends in Ewa Beach who recommended surfing at White Plains Beach. To my lasting good fortune, the first person I met there was Debbie Poki. When I got out of the water one Saturday and saw all the people participating in Day At The Beach, I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of AccesSurf.
The atmosphere of inclusion and aloha was impossible to miss and learning that Debbie and her family, Archie and Kiana, were also involved just sealed the deal. I had such a wonderful experience that I scheduled my next two vacations around DATB before making the move from California to Hawaii in 2016.
I can honestly say that AccesSurf, the Poki family and the friendly line-up at White Plains Beach made me feel at home, right from the start. AccesSurf truly lives up to their mission of inclusivity and that goes for absolutely everyone, locals and newcomers alike.”
