We wouldn’t be who we are or do what we do without our amazing volunteers. This month we are very proud to honor Bruce Wilkinson as our Volunteer of the Month. The stoke and aloha he shares in the water is such a gift to our participants. Here is Bruce’s experience with AccesSurf in his own words:

I love the ocean; it is hard for me to imagine not being able to just jump in the water whenever I want.  I owe my participation in Accesssurf to my wife Bridget, and Charlie!  Bridget was Charlie’s nurse and she was always looking for ways to get him out and about.  Two years ago Bridget came home from Accessurf with a perma-smile on her face; she said she had her best day of surfing ever, and she didn’t even surf!  I promised myself I would go the next time I was off duty on the first Saturday of the month.  I did get to surf that first day I volunteered – I took Charlie and a few other people out surfing.  It was the best day ever!
I surf for myself whenever I want; and I always try to have the “best day ever”.  None of those days can compare….At the May Day at the Beach I took a 7 year old birthday girl surfing – we decided 7 waves would be a good goal. I will never forget the smile on her face and in her eyes when her mom asked her if she had fun.  I get all choked up and teary eyed whenever I see that smile in my mind.  I think I get as much out of AccesSurf as the participants do!  Big Mahalo to all the volunteers that make AccesSurf possible!
Aloha,
Bruce
