We’re proud and excited to kick off the New Year by honoring our behind the scenes angel – Breana Grosz. She is of course amazing at events, always a bright and smiling face in the Assisted Swim zone, but it’s all the nitty gritty behind the scenes work where we just couldn’t do what we do without her. Breana is a consummate  professional and she gives so much of her personal and professional expertise to this organization. Not only is Breana a member of our newly formed Communications Committee (which helps our marketing and communication planning), but sat on our Leadership Committee for quite a while until she moved on to our Board of Directors. Not to mention all the amazing work she did at our Signature Steakhouse fundraiser. That’s a lot! We are so grateful for everything that she does for us. With that, let’s share Breana’s story in her own words:

Aloha United Way’s Society of Young Leader’s group first introduced me to AccesSurf in November 2015 when we volunteered at my first Day at the Beach. The first time I saw a participant catch a wave I was hooked and began coming to DATB regularly. That evolved into taking on projects and assisting the Leadership Committee which transitioned to my position on the Board of Directors in February 2017. I love that I get to be part of the business side now and work with a very engaged board to positively grow and maintain what we all know and love about AccesSurf.

My grandma suffered from a stroke 25 years ago that left her paralyzed on her left side and my cousin Eric has Down’s Syndrome, these people are the most positive and uplifting people I know. I started volunteering to help foster a better community for everyone and along the way this organization changed my life too. AccesSurf is truly a safe and inviting place to be who you are, no matter what stress or challenges you face, we all come together and face the waves together…or laugh trying. Through the years, like many others, AccesSurf has become my family. Mahalo to Cara and everyone for all the aloha you’ve shown me! I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for all of us! Happy New Year!”
