Please tell us a little about yourself with a simple intro: name, where you’re from, interests, what you like to do…Aloha, I’m Nicole PD. I am a recent Army retiree originally from NY who fell in love with Hawaii. I work as a physician at the VA Akaka clinic and love long distance swimming. In 2012, I was medically evacuated from Afghanistan towards the end of my third tour. Since that day, I’ve learned to live a day at a time – with the neurologic side effects of my life saving medications and the stigma of having a mental health diagnosis. Being in the water really helps. Helping other people really helps. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to volunteer and to also be able to participate in the wounded warrior program. I’ll never forget the first wave I caught as a participant. I am filled with joy when I’m volunteering and get to see so many smiles. How did you first hear about AccesSurf?
