His dedication to AccesSurf goes beyond our regular scheduled programs and is a key leader at community and outreach events. He has a heart of gold and we consider ourselves lucky to have him!
Here are some words from Quentin:
Thank you guys so much for this, it really means a lot! For a little bit about me, I grew up surfing in Northern California, but it was when I moved to Maui at 18 that I truly fell in love. I learned to teach surfing, and fell in love with it, at a tiny kiosk on the Kaanapali. Ever since I’ve been searching for a way to keep spreading the stoke and aloha, that’s why I was so ecstatic to find out about AccesSurf. I was teaching a few coworkers to surf at White Plains, saw a DATB, and when I looked them up afterwards I just knew that I had to be a part of such an amazing organization. To me AccesSurf is not only a chance to give back to the community that I love by sharing my passion, it’s a place where I know that every single time I volunteer, I’ll make real, amazing connections. AccesSurf is like no other organization that I’ve had the privilege to be a part of. My favorite Access Surf memory, if it’s even possible to pick one, was just a few months ago. A participant had never been in the ocean, never even seen it in person, and she was terrified. We had a great heart to heart talk, and by the end of the DATB we were out surfing together. It was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience seeing that transition from hesitation and fear to pure stoke. To the AccesSurf ohana, I just wanted to say thank you for all you do, it’s something truly amazing and special. Words can’t express how grateful I am to get to take part in creating these once in a lifetime experiences, and I can’t wait to keep going along this adventure in the future.
