Thank you so very much for the honor of being Volunteer of the Month! I am so touched by the kindness of the AccesSurf Ohana. It really doesn’t feel like a whole lot of work, with such an amazing group of people that always show up to help. You have built something so so special! I LOVE IT! Thank you for everything you do.
Tell us a little about yourself
I’m Meggan Hoff and I’m originally from Minnesota where we swim and play in small lakes, not oceans! As a former military family, I’ve moved around the States, and feel lucky that Hawaii became home in 2020. I love spending time outdoors, especially with my family. I also enjoy traveling, cooking, and good books!
How did you start volunteering with AccesSurf
My kids and I were spending a lot of time at White Plains learning to surf and would meet up with Colonel Tim Schiller & the Mililani HS Surf Club. Colonel told us about AccesSurf and the need for volunteers and assured us that we didn’t have to be excellent at surfing to help. Our first DATB was in January 2024. The moment we joined the Circle Meeting and felt the community of care and support, I knew we would be back every chance we could.
What does AccesSurf mean to you
For me AccesSurf means connection. Where people come together to connect with each other, with nature, and with themselves. It is unifying, supportive, and addictive!
Favorite AccesSurf memory
Just last weekend Luke Shepardson joined the Surf Instructors, and several participants shared their stories of surfing with Luke – it was incredible to feel their joy and excitement. It was a day they will never forget. (The equipment tent crew was pretty excited too 😉)
Anything you want to say or share with our AccesSurf ‘ohana
I am constantly inspired by the bravery and commitment to get out and surf no matter the conditions. You are fearless, and fun, and I am thankful to be a part of your community.
Thank you, Angie, Cara, and crew for this honor. I loved taking a moment to reflect on AccesSurf’s impact. What you do is so important for many many people. You are the best!
Love,
Meg
