Amanda has taken volunteering with AccesSurf to the next level. Not only is she actively involved at our regular programs she also trains and surfs with our Hawaii Adaptive Surf Team. Thank you Amanda for generously sharing your time, skills and passion with all of us at AccesSurf!

From Amanda…

“I am honored to be a part of AccesSurf and representing adaptive surfing. I came across AccesSurf through a participant who came to our surf clinic in California who had recently relocated from Hawaii. I was volunteering through the Naval Medical Center’s health and wellness program at their surf clinic doing adaptive surfing for the last five years and was sad to leave. AccesSurf made the transition so much easier. It was one of the first groups I got plugged in with when I moved to Hawaii just over a year ago. It’s always fun and rewarding to help others, AccesSurf reminds me to be thankful for everything. Participants bring a great outlook on life and it becomes contagious.

AccesSurf has been a great way to put my passions together with Physical Therapy and surfing. My favorite part is when participants become independent with their surfing skills and it has been a huge blessing to be a part of the first ever adaptive surf team for Hawaii and represent in my home town, the same exact break where I caught my first wave.

Thank you to everyone for your sacrifice and service to make something that may have seemed impossible now possible. I feel so honored to be a part of such a wonderful group of people and share the joy and freedom that I find in the water and catching waves with so many people with disabilities who may have never had the opportunity to do so.”
