Tell us a little about yourself with a simple intro: name, where you’re from, interests, what you like to do…

Mark Mateja – I’ve lived all around the world but my favorite place is Hawaii. I’ve always been a fish and spending time in the water, especially with my family, is my happy place.

How did you first hear about AccesSurf?

I took a different path going bodyboarding one day and happened to bump into Cara. We started a conversation, and as a physical therapist I thought volunteering with AccesSurf would be a great way to give back to the community.

What does AccesSurf mean to you?

When I have free time my first thought is to get into the water, whether that means surfing or swimming with my family. AccesSurf enables people to enjoy these ocean activities when they otherwise might not be able to. Giving a little bit of my time to make that possible for others makes it worth it for me.

What is your favorite AccesSurf memory?

Spending the week as water safety for the 2023 HASC.
