Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is James Donnelly. Growing up in Florida, my mother dragged me to all kinds of volunteer events. I spent summers in the hospital bringing patients from their rooms to different departments. After college, I came to surf the North Shore and never left Hawaii.

How and when did you hear about or start with AccesSurf

I have been volunteering as a surf instructor for more than 30 years here on Oahu. Another volunteer introduced me to AccesSurf more than 15 years ago.

What does AccesSurf mean to you?

AccesSurf is a great example of the Aloha Spirit in action. The community coming together to bring the ocean to everyone.

What is your favorite AccesSurf memory?

Oh so many. The biggest moment happened in 2015 when a 14 year old girl from Canada planned her Make-A-Wish trip to attend a Day at the Beach. Her bravery and joy shined through the tears in all of our eyes seeing her in the Pacific Ocean for the first time.
