Our Mission:
AccesSurf empowers people with disabilities by providing adaptive surfing instruction and therapeutic educational programs on water recreation and enriches lives by assisting families to access the beach and ocean in a barrier free environment.
Our Vision:
In the aloha spirit that Duke Kahanamoku, “The Father of Surfing,” introduced surfing to others, AccesSurf will be the leader in recreation and leisure opportunities in the beach environment for people with disabilities through providing therapeutic instruction for the advancement of adaptive surfing and ocean recreation throughout the state of Hawaii and worldwide for generations to come.
Our Goals:
AccesSurf’s main goals are to:
- Assist people with disabilities to explore their own level of performance in the ocean environment;
- Act as an advocate for accessibility to the water that will allow people with limited mobility to reach the beach (i.e. wheelchairs, assisted devices, strollers, etc.);
- Provide adaptive equipment with educational programs for the advancement of adaptive surfing;
- Develop partnerships to expand the awareness of safe adaptive aquatic recreation.
Equipment and Staff:
AccesSurf utilizes various types of adaptive aquatic equipment from around the world to implement the highest level of safe, therapeutic recreation experiences. With new innovative aquatic equipment regularly integrated into our programs, we continue to be a leader in providing beach access and adaptive ocean activities including surfing, swimming, snorkeling and flotation.
AccesSurf combines certified, professional staff in the fields of therapeutic recreation, rehabilitative medicine, and ocean safety to provide the highest level of safety for our therapeutic programs. Trained volunteers assist these professionals ensuring a seamless program that encourages our participants to reach their highest level of independence.
